Story 2

Christy (not her real name) came to camp as a mildly autistic, partially deaf and very frightened child. But God was in the details! She was paired with a counselor who knew sign language and had worked with hearing impaired children. Christy was so frightened on the bus ride to camp that she sat up front with me and would not communicate with any of the children. All the way to camp, I talked to her about her counselor, Greer, and showed her pictures of the campground, what we would do and Greer. Upon arriving at the campground and meeting Greer, there was an instant bond. Every day Christy clung to Greer, but she became more outgoing. She loved camp! In fact, she got up on stage and performed in the Talent Show on Thursday night!. The bus ride back was entirely different. Christy sat with the other children and talked and laughed with them. It was like it was a different child! Later, I talked to the foster mother and she said that Christy had come back a different child. She talked, laughed, her school work improved. Camp changed everything for the better. Christy has since graduated from Royal Family, but she is still in the same home and her mother still reports that camp totally changed Christy!
